SARSEF Rules

The most demanding rules, rules that if violated can cause failure to qualify at SARSEF or ISEF, are those mandated by the Scientific Review Committee and the Institutional Reviw Board.  Click on each of these Links to review what is required of the student.

High Schools (9-12) -- it is strongly recommended that all HS students submit the appropriate forms to the SARSEF SRC for prior approval.  Schools may set up the SRC/IRB, following SSP guidelines, but to avoid potential problems, the SARSEF SRC is prepared to evaluate all High School projects requiring prior review.

K-8th Grade Schools -- setting up a School SRC:

IF a school is willing to take on the honest job of reviewing projects, then they may set up thier own SRC.   The recommendation is to have the School Principal, a science teacher, and the school nurse or counselor serve on the committee.  This way the committe will have a good idea from the legal standpoint, the science perspective, and the health aspects when reviewing and approving the projects.  Hopefully this will assist in cutting down costs and time to get approval or when revisions are needed.
The KEY is to evaluate the projects for the safety of the students and research subjects (human subjects, animals, etc.).  The SRC must be aware of and enforce all SARSEF rules (links are given above).  If an SRC has questions or is unsure of a decision, please call the SARSEF SRC office (621-3493) or email:   src@sarsef.org

IF a school does not wish to set up their own SRC, they may send the K-8 SRC forms (with research plan attached) to the SARSEF SRC office:  7380 E. Snyder Rd., Tucson AZ  85750
